prodigious, daunt, tedious, mediocre, mandate

In case you missed it last week, here's a graphic organizer students can use to watch videos actively, tracking the meaning of words.

Watch Vocab Videos:

Vocab videos

    • Log in with your username and password.
    • Click on +"Video Library" in blue bar at top of page.
    • Select "Two's Company Part 3."
    • Select words #6-10.

Give students time to play with the words:
  • Play a game:
    • Thriver (similar to 25,000 Pyramid)
      • Place one chair close to board so that student's back is to board.
      • Write vocabulary words on board so that all but the student sitting in chair sees the words. Start with words from this week, and, if time allows, choose words from last week.
      • Set a timer for one (1) minute.
      • The rest of the class provides clues (examples, words that mean the same, definition) without saying the words or parts of the word, until the student in chair says the correct word.
      • Keep score to see who can get the most words in one minute.

Talk with students about words:

    • Talk about examples, non-examples, synonyms, and antonyms, create sentences using words in context.
      • For example, ask kids examples of people or situations that apply to the word prodigious:
        • Goliath was a prodigious giant.
        • Cancer survivors overcome prodigious battles.
        • Blytheville may seem a prodigious opponent, but our basketball teams are up for the challenge.
