Introduce Vocab Video Contest:

  • Students have had the opportunity to see several vocab videos. Now, they can produce their own!
  • Go to the Vocab Contest page, and explain the contest and review the rules with students.
  • Be sure to tell them Mrs. Labert has digital tools in the library they can use to create their videos.
  • Emphasize the deadline of November 22--the last day before Thanksgiving break. Students must have videos uploaded to SchoolTube by this date.

Watch Vocab Videos:

  • Vocab videos

    • Log in with your username and password.
    • Click on +"Video Library" in blue bar at top of page.
    • Select "Rumor Chick: The New Guy."
    • Select the first set of words.
  • Give students time to play with the words:

Have students use markers on desk or dry erase boards or pencil and paper to create a 4-square. As students work, walk around the room to help give students ideas and ask questions about what they're drawing.
    • Write synonyms--words that mean the same.
    • Write examples/scenarios/situations that illustrate the word. For example, for sagacious (which means wise), they might write a judge, Solomon, jeopardy winner (the game show).
    • Draw a pic.
    • Write a sentence.

Or, you might have students work with a partner to think of scenarios they could write for a vocab video on a particular word, and have students share with whole class.
  • Let students share with a partner or the whole class.
