  • Give students time to play with the words:


    Have students use markers on desk or dry erase boards or pencil and paper to create a 4-square. As students work, walk around the room to help give students ideas and ask questions about what they're drawing.
  • 4-Squares:
    • Write synonyms--words that mean the same.
    • Write examples/scenarios/situations that illustrate the word. For example, for sagacious (which means wise), they might write a judge, Solomon, jeopardy winner (the game show).
    • Draw a pic.
    • Write a sentence.
  • Let students share with a partner or the whole class.
