• Word of the Week: Pioneer
  • Ask, according to the advisee, what the word pioneer means.
  • Click here to read Dictionary.com's defintion.
    • a person who is among those who first enter or settle a region, thus opening it for occupation and development by others.
    • one who is first or among the earliestin any field of inquiry, enterprise, or progress:
      • pioneers in cancer research.
  • Ask for examples of this term:
    • From the news/history.
    • From their lives.
• Current Event
  • Click here and allow students to read news article.
  • When finished, discuss:
    • What is happening?
    • Who is involved (countries, parties, people)?
    • Where is this taking place (part of the world)? If you have Google Earth installed on your computer, you might use it. Start at Batesville.
    • Why is this happening?
    • How does this affect me?
